It looked like a solid round of Danish cruise control at 2-0 after the first period against France in Sunday's second round match, but the French did not give up and won the second period 3-1. The Danes were on their heels in the third period, i.a. because Markus Lauridsen had a rare off-day with an unheard of three expulsions in the match, including the two in the last 20 minutes.
However, the Danish outnumbered game delivered well with three out of three sequences without a goal against, and then Patrick Russell was able to decide precisely in the lead shortly into overtime, so it ended with a Danish bonus point via a 4-3 victory.
Now similar opposition awaits in the form of an Austrian team, which set out to play right up to France, but lost 1-2 after overtime, while against Sweden they hung on well in the first half hour of the match against Sweden, but had to capitulate in the last half, which ended with the Swedes emerging victorious with 5-0. Young David Reinbacher was injured in a hard tackle and had to be substituted. Backen's participation in the match against Denmark is doubtful.
Although the Danes are the favorites on Tuesday afternoon in Tampere, the Austrians are a troublesome bunch, who caused problems for several teams at the World Cup last year. The USA needed overtime to win 3-2, while the Czech Republic was sensationally defeated 2-1, also after overtime. There have been no changes to more than a handful of places on the Austrian team, where national coach Roger Bader is the national coach for the eighth year in a row.
The Austrians also won 3-0 the last time the two teams met in a test match in February, where the Danes, however, lacked several international profiles.

Maybe under 5 goals!? Or Austria X2 or +1.5h!??
